Nicole Ari Parker, an American actress who has been featured in films and television and on stage is best known for portraying Teri Joseph, a fiery lawyer in the show the show on Showtime called Soul Food. Her name is currently her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. Growing up within Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. At a Maryland high school contest during her first years of training, she was awarded the title for the best actress. After her experience in the theater as well as with "The Washington Ballet Company", she received an acting diploma from New York University. The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love brought her an award for best-in-class roles. It was then followed by films such as "Boogie Nights Spark" and "Blue Streak." Blue Streak". She was praised for her role in Soul Food. Her TV appearances included Second Time Around and Empire. Earlier in her career she was in numerous stage productions. Parker is engaged to Boris Kodjoe, an actor and model. They have two kids together.
The family was born to Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to the age of seven. Contractor was well-versed in the world and an array of cultures at a very young age. The boarding school she attended was in London between the ages of seven and nine years of age, and then her family moved towards Toronto, Canada, where she lived the bulk of her early childhood and adulthood. Contractor had a great academic career throughout her time in Toronto and also trained as the ballerina. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts - a specialized arts high school in which she studied not just dance but also theatre. When she was 16, after nearly 10 years of dancing, Contractor discovered she was looking to take up acting as a profession. After graduating high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at The University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in sociology and psychology. In addition, she obtained a master's degree in Theater. Contractor was offered the lead character in Pericles following a brief time in University. She auditioned for it at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and won. Her performance was lauded throughout the 92 productions she appeared in. She won the 2002 award for the Best Production of the Year by Canadian critics. The actress accepted an invitation to enroll in Stratford's conservatory. It is a place that allows only four males and eight women can take the 20-week crash program in classical theatre. The actress's spot in the next play season was secured and she won the role as Hermia.
